Car Insurance Quote Basics

By Barry H Brenner

There's no question that reviewing a car insurance quote can be confusing, particularly if you're purchasing car insurance for the very first time. Following are the basic components of car insurance, to help you understand how to interpret the car insurance quotes you receive.

Liability Insurance - Liability insurance is the coverage that insures the other driver in the event that you are responsible for an accident. In most states, liability insurance is required. It covers property damages, including automobiles and other property. Liability insurance also covers medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering. Keep in mind that liability coverage insures the other party and will not pay expenses related to your medical bills or damage to your automobile.

Collision Coverage- Collision coverage is not required by law and provides protection for your property and medical expenses in an accident. If the accident is deemed to be your fault, you will need this coverage for automobile repairs or replacement. Though the law does not require collision insurance, your bank will require it if you have a car loan. Collision coverage insures that the bank will get paid for the remainder of the amount owed on the vehicle if it is totaled in an accident. If you are in an accident but you are not at fault the other party's liability insurance should pay your expenses.

Comprehensive Coverage - This is one of the most misunderstood parts of a car insurance quote. It does not cover damage from an accident; so many drivers don't feel that they need it. However, comprehensive coverage insures your vehicle from damage sustained from a flood, wind or hail. This coverage also covers your vehicle if it is vandalized or stolen.

Medical Coverage - Medical coverage covers medical expenses in the event of an accident. It will typically cover expenses regardless of who is at fault.

Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist- Uninsured and under insured motorist protects you in the event that you are in an accident caused by a driver who does not carry liability insurance. Even if your state requires that all drivers carry liability insurance, this insurance can provide much needed financial coverage in the event the responsible person in an accident cannot cover your property and medical expenses because their insurance has lapsed.

Optional Add ons - Your car insurance quote will also likely include a few optional items that you may want to consider if they're in your budget. These include:• Rental Car Reimbursement - this coverage provides funds toward renting a car while yours is out of commission due to an accident.
• Roadside Assistance - this coverage provides you with a 24 hour a day number you can call for assistance in the event of a flat tire or other breakdown.
• Extended Warranty - Some insurers will offer extended warranty on your car insurance quote. This helps cover the cost of automobile parts needed for repairs. The repairs need not be related to an accident. This coverage is very similar to the type of extended warranty many people purchase from the car manufacturer at the time of purchase.

Choosing the right elements from your car insurance quote can take some time. But, with a little research and comparison, you should be able to put together a car insurance policy that works for your needs and your budget. Free Canada Auto Insurance Quotes

By Elizabeth Morgan

If you are moving to Canada, you may want to consider getting a car or auto insurance plan in that country. This will be more practical for you as it will facilitate faster service in case of emergencies and accidents.

Moving to a new place poses its own anxieties. To limit uncertainties, ask for the help of proper authorities. When looking for the right insurance carrier, it is important to shortlist only credible and accredited choices.

You can either contact an insurance broker, arrange for a presentation of auto insurance products or log on to websites offering free insurance quotes. Either way, you have to provide the right information to get the most accurate estimate of the premium cost you have to pay for an auto insurance policy.

For a normal application, the process will take from a few minutes to a few hours. There are, however, many reasons for an insurance carrier to turn down applications.

There are four factors that may disqualify an applicant for an auto insurance policy. One of these is a lapse in insurance payment. Another is the suspension of an applicant’s driver’s license in the last six years. Insurance carriers usually will not take a risk on an errant driver who has more chances of committing accidents. The third reason is the age of the vehicle to be insured. Cars and automobiles that are older than 15 years are very hard to insure. These cars are more prone to breakdown and cause accidents. Vehicles used for commercial purposes may not be approved for an insurance policy. There are customized policies for vehicles such as these.

It does not necessarily mean that you will never get insurance if any of those factors apply to you. All you need to do is find the right insurance provider that can accommodate you despite these factors.

Easy Ways To Cut Car Insurance Costs

In most states, the law requires you to have auto insurance. Here are a few tips you can use to reduce the cost of the necessary insurance -

* Be sure to compare prices

Get multiple quotes from different insurance companies. You can easily find differences of 15 to 20% for the same coverage, so it pays to shop around. But be aware, the lowest price does not always mean the best deal, so check into the companies reputation for paying claims before you purchase a policy.

* Rates vary depending upon the type of car

Insurance costs vary depending on car type. For example, an $80,000 high performance sports car will cost more to insure than an economy sedan.

* Age and current value of car

Obviously, if you just purchased a new car, you will probably want to have full insurance coverage to protect your investment. However, if your car is many years old and doesn't have much of a cash value, you may be better off by dropping any extra coverage, while retaining only the required liability insurance. In most cases, you can trim hundreds of dollars off your annual insurance premiums.
* Accept a higher deductible

Most car insurance companies use deductibles to keep policy costs down. The deductible is the amount you pay towards any damage before your car insurance policy pays. In other words, if your policy has a $200 deductible and you suffer damages in the amount of $500, you would pay the first $200, while the insurance company would pay the remaining $300.

When shopping for car insurance, be sure to look at the premium prices for coverage with various deductible amounts. You may find that changing your deductible from $200 to $500 may trim your premiums by 20% or more.

* Multiple policy discount

Many insurance companies offer a discount if you purchase more than one policy. For example, if you have a policy on your car as well as a policy on your spouses car, you may qualify for a discount. Be sure to check with your insurance agent - it could save you money!

* Low usage/mileage discounts

As fuel costs increase, more and more people are either working closer to home or maybe even working from home. Increased costs also tend to reduce unnecessary trips and encourage car-pooling. This can mean that you will be driving substantially fewer miles every year, so you will probably qualify for a low usage/mileage discount

* Good driving record

A good driving record can reduces your car insurance costs. By driving carefully, avoiding accidents and traffic tickets, your insurance company may offer you a "safe driver" discount rate.

* Ride on your parents policy

If you live at home with your parents, or your a qualifying student, it may be possible that you can purchase car insurance by being added on to your parents policy. They will likely then qualify for the multiple policy discount and you will get a lower premium than if you purchased a separate policy on your own.

Understanding Auto Insurance

By Paul Stewart

Auto (car) insurance is a type of insurance coverage for damage to and resulting from an auto. Insurance of this type can cover a variety of things depending on the kind of auto insurance that has been purchased.

All auto insurance policies involve a premium, which is the payment a customer makes to have auto insurance. Premiums for auto insurance can be extremely divergent and are determined by a number of factors. Gender is the major determinant for auto insurance premiums. Statistically, men are 80% more likely to be involved in an accident, and therefore have a greater need for insurance. Auto insurance premiums for men are higher than auto insurance premiums for women. Similarly, teenagers are considered high risk and will have to pay higher auto insurance premiums. The auto insurance premium can be reduced if the teenager takes a defensive driving course. Many states require teenagers to take defensive driving courses in order to obtain a driving permit and auto insurance.

It is customary for auto insurance plans to have a deductible that the customer is responsible for before the auto insurance provider offers coverage of expenses. Deductibles can have an effect on the coverage available under an auto insurance plan.

Auto insurance is slightly different than other types of insurance because you can purchase auto insurance that covers specific needs. For this reason there are different kinds of auto insurance. Auto insurance basics are covered by liability auto insurance plans. Liability auto insurance is usually the minimum required by state laws. Liability auto insurance is characterized by a set dollar amount of coverage for damages resulting from accidents or negligence. The coverage amount of liability auto insurance can be applied to property damaged in the accident that is not an auto.

Car insurance also comes as collision auto insurance. Collision auto insurance is meant to cover the cost of repairs to a vehicle involved in an accident, or the cash value of the vehicle if it cannot be repaired.

Comprehensive auto insurance is also available. With comprehensive auto insurance, coverage of fees for repairs is provided for accidents that are not collisions. Comprehensive auto insurance will, for example, cover hail or fire damage.

Top Ten Most Expensive Cars to Insure

By Andy Adams

The subject of car insurance has become a hot topic over recent years; many of us now compare car insurance quotes from a number of providers before buying a car, let alone arranging insurance. Motoring is getting increasingly expensive too with petrol and diesel prices soaring in the past year or two as well as proposed tax increases for inefficient vehicles or "gas guzzlers" as they're referred to.

So this means that our choice of car is more vital than ever, we want to buy a car that we can afford to buy but more importantly; can afford to run. In a second article I am going to cover the top ten cars that are cheap to insure but in this article I am covering the polar opposite: The most expensive cars to insure, these cars may have astronomical price tags but they also carry large insurance quotes too:

10. Chevrolet Cobalt, Two Door - An American sporty car that looks not unlike modern Vauxhall Astras, sporty models of this car are said to have high insurance costs.

9. Mitsubishi Eclipse - The Eclipse is most famous for being one of the many cars Paul Walker drives in the movie "The Fast and The Furious", a newer model has since been released and many of the film's fans have bought an Eclipse with ambitions to give it a Fast and Furious makeover, all these add-ons that people add to the car will increase the insurance costs drastically.

8. Suzuki Forenza - This car is a more sensible looking car than the sports cars that are on this list but is still up there for insurance costs due to large engine sizes and horsepower.

7. Nissan Sentra SE-R - The SE-R spec version of this car is a popular with ricers (racers who modify cheap cars with aftermarket parts) and as well as this there are a number of faults known in the car owner community to do with this model that make it prone to needing a repair every now and then!

6. Acura RSX - Acura are a sub division of Honda and this car is derived from many of the Type-R parts of the popular Honda Civic cars, put under a new body it's a very popular sporty car and ranks high on the number of collisions lists which no doubt gave it it's place in the middle of this table.

5. Scion 1c - This car is in this list for one obvious statistic: the Scion 1C has the youngest demographic of drivers, with 35% of drivers being under 25. Younger drivers are always more expensive to insure due to bad habits and lack of experience so unfortunately the Scion has high insurance policies for anyone else too.

4. Mitsubishi Lancer - A personal favourite of mine the Lancer is a popular rallying and racing car from Japan. The Lancer Evolution series is a popular high end rallying car along with the Subaru Impreza and both share high numbers of collisions reported, hence higher car insurance.

3. Hyundai Tiburon - The Tiburon of the Hyundai Coupe as it is known in most other markets is a fairly common sports compact car. Similar in appearance to the Toyota Celica it is this high on the list due to its popularity as a fast affordable car.

2. Subaru Impreza WRX 4WD - This model is much like the Mitsubishi, it's an over powered rally car that many people take joy in driving at great speed with the tasteful blue paint and gold wheel rims combination. Popular with young drivers even the older models have high instances of insurance claims being made and so has skyrocketed the car to the top of this list.

1. Cadillac Escalade EXT 4WD - This car/Sports Utility Vehicle is associated with celebrities more than any car and can always been seen on MTV's Cribs programme. The Escalade is not only one of the most expensive cars to insure but also most likely to cause massive damage to your car if your unfortunate enough to be crashed into by one of these behemoths.

So there you have it, the most expensive cars to insure based on the overall costs paid out by insurers over 2004-2006. Whilst not the most recent of studies it has taken some time to gather all the data plus a lot of these costs have come as a result of thefts too.

The old adage of "if you have nice things then there are people who will find them desirable enough to steal" remains true, the Escalade especially is such an expensive vehicle that if you were to make a claim based on it being stolen then the insurers will no doubt be sweating over the cost to replace your car.

The majority of these cars do cost a lot to insure but if you were to compare car insurance providers then there may be a chance that you can get cheap car insurance for your car instead of accepting what the first provider offers you.

If you are looking for car insurance or need to find a better deal then check online with many insurers to find the best car insurance quotes for your particular needs. Check with your motor insurance to see if you can make a saving on your car insurance.

The Basic Steps For Filing A Car Insurance Claim

Being involved in a car accident is never planned. However, what you do or don't do immediately after the accident can directly impact your cost of car insurance as well as your state of mind.

The very first thing that you should do when you are involved in a car accident is exchange driver information. That is assuming you are not seriously injured. If you are seriously injured, make sure that the following information is collected by someone at the scene of the accident.

Get the other driver's name, address, telephone number, driver's license number, insurance carrier, policy number, insurance carriers telephone number, and the license plate number of the vehicle or vehicles involved in the accident.

Make sure that you get the name, address, and telephone numbers of any witnesses to the accident. They may be needed to substantiate how the accident occurred.

Local law enforcement should be contacted to report the accident. If you can not reach them, you can go to your local police department, sheriff's office, or Department Of Motor Vehicles and obtain the necessary form to complete and submit it while there. Check the Department Of Motor Vehicles website to see if you can submit your report there.

In the majority of cases, you should report the accident to your insurance company. Before calling them, make sure that you understand your policy.

Sit down and carefully read your car insurance policy. If there is any part of it that you do not understand, call your insurance agent or company, have a list of questions prepared, and get the answers.

If you still are not sure as to what to ask, you may quote car insurance with another insurance company and while you are getting your quote, ask them.

When yoiu are comfortable with what your policy covers, contact your insurance company as soon as possible. An insurance adjuster may be sent to record the damages to your vehicle and take your report and determine who was at fault in the accident. Be prepared for this. If necessary have a written description of what happened including any diagrams that will explain the accident.

And, having a depostion from any of the witnesses at the scene would be helpful.

If the accident was not your fault, you can either contact the other driver's insurance company or have your insurance company contact them to handle the repairs to your vehicle, or if necessary replace your vehicle.

If you use the other driver's insurance company, you will not have to file a claim on your policy and pay any of your deductible to have your vehicle repaired.

Do not relieve the responsible insurance company of its responsibility until all of the damages are settled to your satisfaction. If necessary have your insurance company handle your claim if the other party's insurance company questions who was at fault or offers an unacceptable settlement.

Be sure to consider all of the settlement factors:

Bodily Injury – You may be entitled to financial compensation for any injuries caused by the other driver. It may take several days for your injuries to become apparent.

Property Damage – The insurance company is responsible for paying the reasonable cost to repair the other drivers vehicle or property if you are at fault. If you are not at fault, the other insurance company is responsible for the repairs to your vehicle. The damages to the vehicle will be determined by the adjuster. In most cases the insurance company and the repair shop negotiate any disagreements about what should be repaired. If you don't agree with their conclusion, you have the right to go to another repair shop.

Being involved in a auto accident is never fun, but do understand that you have certain basic rights, and if you are not satisfied with the way your claim is being handled, you can contact the state Department Of Insurance regarding your claim.

Car Insurance Companys Dont Want You to know

When looking for a good car insurance quote that combines the coverage you need with a good, affordable cost there are many factors that will culminate in the price of your car insurance quote. So if you have found a discount car insurance broker don’t just take the cheapest quote that you get.

What should you look out for when signing on the dotted line? Car insurance can be a minefield if you do not investigate and take time out to research and evaluate the many types of insurance on offer in today's market.

There is antique truck and car insurance available, but only for antiques, and make sure that you know how you are going to use the vehicle.
Even if, for example, your car hit a deer, insurance adjusters will even be called for this too, to estimate the amount of damage to the car.

Whether you buy your car insurance directly from an insurance company or through an independent insurance broker, always make sure that you purchase matching uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage and the maximum medical payment benefits.
Why should you buy car insurance through an independent insurance broker? Another way you can get the car insurance comparison you need without spending too much time on the computer is to contact an online car insurance broker.

And there’s ways to reduce the cost of your car insurance even with the best of companies.
You can also change the insurance coverage and policy limits for your car at any time, even if you are not close to your car insurance renewal.
The bottom line is don’t let a car insurance adjuster suck you into thinking he’s your best friend in the world, only to be let down later.

If you don’t want to have to use your Mexico car insurance right away then you have to avoid driving at night.

You may find when doing a car insurance comparison that some companies give a discount if you are over age 50.

Without a doubt, car insurance cost would increase if you have been convicted of a driving conviction.

Essentially the insurance companies would set an average driving amount for each car type.
Drop collision and comprehensive Coverage on older cars- If your car is worth less than 10 times your premium inthe current market, consider dropping the collision and comprehensive coverage.

Consumers can receive quotes from many insurance companies, in some states you are able to purchase your insurance instantly, online.

Guide To Evaluating Budget Car Insurance

These days, Internet shopping makes it easy to find budget car insurance coverage for your needs. However, it helps to know what you're getting in car insurance even when you want to save a buck, which of course you do.

First of all, if you drive an older car and you don't have any payments on that car, you don't need two types of insurance: collision insurance or comprehensive insurance. You do need liability insurance no matter what type of car you drive. Laws vary from state to state as to the amount of liability insurance you need to have, but if you're on the road, you do absolutely have to have liability insurance. It should be noted that liability insurance does not cover you or your vehicle in any way. It simply guarantees that you are responsible for the other party's car and/or injuries up to a certain amount, if you are deemed at fault in an accident. Budget car insurance can also include simple liability insurance, as well as two other types of insurance, comprehensive and collision insurance.

If your car is newer and/or you still owe payments on that car, then you'll want to have both comprehensive and collision insurance. This is because the premiums you pay also include the insurance company's replacement of your car in the event you're in an accident.

For the best kind of budget car insurance, of course you want to pay as little as possible for the coverage you need, whether it's just simple liability insurance or it includes comprehensive and/or collision insurance as well. So first, determine whether your car is old enough and not worth the cost of having it covered with comprehensive and collision insurance. Collision insurance covers your car's damage in the event you're in an accident, whether or not it's determined you're at fault. Comprehensive insurance covers damage to your car if it happens when you're not driving, such as if your car is vandalized when it's parked or if a tree limb falls on it, for example.

Collision and comprehensive coverage become unnecessary when your car is old enough that its replacement value is not worth your insurance premiums. In that case, you're better off putting the extra money you save on premiums in a savings account or some other place where it's going to earn interest and then buy a new car with that money if your old one is in an accident and is no longer operable.

However, if your car is new enough that collision and comprehensive coverage make the extra premiums worth your while because replacement cost is more than the premiums you pay, then you should indeed carry comprehensive and collision insurance coverage. You can get budget car insurance for these types of coverage, too.

Once you have determined what type of insurance you need, go search for budget car insurance. Depending on your driving record, your age, any accidents you've had, any previous insurance claims you had, and so on, you'll qualify within a certain risk category. Within that risk category, though, quotes can vary wildly depending on the company and the underwriters' assessment of you. Therefore, it's best to shop around for the lowest cost insurance with the greatest coverage depending on what you need.

Remember that budget car insurance can be had no matter the type of coverage you need or your driving record; it's true that if your driving record is less than perfect or if you're within a certain age and/or gender category, you may pay more than someone else will regardless. The area you live in also helps determine the amount of insurance you pay. Nonetheless, you should be able to get the best rate possible with budget car insurance by doing some homework and assessing competing quotes. Choose the lowest quote with the highest coverage in it. Make sure you also research insurance companies to make sure they have good records and handle claims promptly and fairly. If you do this, though, it should be easy to find budget car insurance for your needs.

One last word of advice is that you should shop around both online and offline. There is budget car insurance available from some very reliable and reputable companies online, but just because you got it online does not guarantee that it will be the best of cheapest. Shop around, both online and offline, make sure you are comparing apples to apples for coverage and deductibles, and then you can determine which is most cost effective for you.

Car Insurance and Young Drivers

By Expert Author: Daniel Collins

For many young drivers, passing your test is the best feeling in the world. Buying your first car is one of the most memorable moments in your life, looking for cheap car insurance – disaster. If you are a young driver, car insurance companies tend to penalise you due to your age. If you’re a male, you're hit even harder. The common thought between the insurance companies is that because you’re young you’re going to crash. Sure statistics show most crashes are caused by young drivers, but not all young drivers should be penalised because of this. There are ways for all drivers to help reduce their car insurance premiums; one of the most straight forward ways is to keep a clean driving record. By driving sensibly, keeping to the rules and remembering your lessons you shouldn’t have any problems. If you choose to speed through the streets and get points on your licence, then quite frankly you deserve a high premium. Another way to try and reduce the amount you pay is to park your car somewhere safe at night. By opting to park your car in a garage or on a secure car drive you’re increasing the security of the vehicle and this is what car insurance companies like. By parking your car on a busy main road it can lead to a price increase of up to £300 a year. A proven technique to help reduce your car insurance premium is to undergo further training. There are schemes set up for this exact reason, the most popular and well known is Pass Plus. The Pass Plus scheme takes the drivers through a range of scenarios and conditions which in effect should help make them a better driver. Car insurance companies recognise this scheme and reward their customers with a discount if it has been completed. The Pass Plus discount can take up to 1/3 off your car insurance premium.

Lower Car Insurance Price - 5 Considerations To Computing Your Car Insurance Premiums

Have you ever wonder why car insurance costs vary from one car insurance company to the other? This is due to the different type of computation factors that car insurance companies use to derive the car insurance cost. Based on the answers that you replied to the car insurance company, they will add or discount the cost before arriving at a final price for your car insurance. Thus, it is important for you to shop around first before you commit yourself to a particular car insurance company as different companies take a different view of the various high risk factors. We will look at some of the factors that car insurance companies take into considerations.

1. Having a clean driving record.Without a doubt, car insurance cost would increase if you have been convicted of a driving conviction. Thus, it pays to be a safe driver so that unnecessary costs won't be incurred.

2. Adding additional drivers to the policyBy adding additional drivers to the policy, extra premiums will be added. Thus, do not add in drivers into the policy just because you think that this person might be using the car in the future. Consider carefully whether it is necessary to add this person into the policy.

3. The age and gender of the driverIf the driver is under the age of 25 the rate will mostly likely be fairly high. This is due to the lack of driving experience. Usually, you will need to have over three years driving to be quoted a lower rate. Also, a single male driver rates higher than a single female. This is because males are rated as a higher risk to car insurance companies.

4. Your credit report history. Most car insurance companies take into account of your credit history. Paying your bills on time and maintaining a good credit history will allow you to enjoy lower car insurance cost.

5. Anti-theft alarmFix up an electronic central locking and alarm on your car. Discount could be given by insurance companies when you have anti-theft devices install in your car.
